McKeith offers to withdraw doctor title

The television health guru and bestselling author Gillian McKeith has agreed to remove the title Dr from some of her company's advertising, after a complaint to the industry watchdog, the Telegraph reports. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said a member of the public had challenged whether McKeith was a qualified and accredited doctor and entitled to use the term.

Her company, McKeith Research, offered to withdraw the honorific before a full investigation was launched. It is not clear whether the withdrawal of the title will be made on her cook books and other branded products.

McKeith does not claim to be a medical doctor, but says on her website that she "spent several years re-training for a Masters and doctorate (PhD) in Holisitic Nutrition from the American Holistic College of Nutrition".
