Marina Chapman memoir to Mainstream

Mainstream has acquired a memoir by Marina Chapman recounting how she was kidnapped and abandoned as a five-year-old in the Columbian jungle, where she lived for five years with a troop of monkeys.  

M.d. Bill Campbell bought UK rights through Andrew Lownie in the title, The Girl with No Name: The Incredible True Story of the Girl Raised by Monkeys by Marina Chapman, now a British housewife, with plans to publish in spring 2013.

In the book, Chapman will tell of how she was kidnapped and abandoned in the Columbian jungle, living for the next five years with a troop of capuchin monkeys until she was discovered by a pair of hunters who sold her as a slave in exchange for a parrot to a couple who ran a brothel.

Australian rights have sold to Murdoch Books, and Camilla Ferrier at The Marsh Agency selling rights in Italy to Piemme, to Rowolt in Germany and Luitingh-Sijthoff in Holland.

Ferrier said: "Marina's harrowing, extraordinary story has quickly struck a chord with European publishers in Holland, Germany and Italy who acquired rights on proposal and felt confident her incredible tale will really connect with readers looking for an ultimately life-affirming story in these difficult economic times."
