Mankell releases Wallander app

Vintage author Henning Mankell, in collaboration with Ystad Tourism, has released a free app that enables fans get to know more about the location of the crime series, following the movements of fictional detective Kurt Wallander.

The app, "In the Footsteps of Wallander", is available to download in English, Swedish and German through an iPhone or Android phone. It is designed to be used in Ystad, the books' Swedish setting, but can be used wherever the user is in the world, with information about the books, Wallander and the location, connecting the fictional associations within the series to the real places in which they take place. The app was developed by Welcom, a web agency based in Gothenburg.

Harvill Secker publishing director Liz Foley said: "This app is a wonderful tool for all Mankell's fans. So many of us feel that we know Ystad from reading his crime novels and this gives us the opportunity to delve even deeper into Wallander's world."

The entire Wallander series is already available in e-book format from Vintage.
