Macmillan has signed a deal with books on mobile phones company GoSpoken for it to sell the publisher’s entire e-book catalogue on its site.
More than 320 Macmillan e-books, including C J Sansom’s Revelation and Alice Sebold’s The Almost Moon, were made available on Monday. The titles cost between £5 and £10 and can be bought either by using a mobile phone or visiting GoSpoken.com.
Sara Lloyd, Macmillan’s digital director, said: “Books on mobile phones are a very interesting potential growth area for digital publishing. Mobiles are ertainly a space that we can’t afford to miss out on.”
Last week, GoSpoken signed a deal with Research in Motion, the maker of the Blackberry, to launch a GoSpoken application on all Blackberry Bold and Storm handsets for Vodafone customers in the United Kingdom.
Publishers such as Penguin and HarperCollins have also signed up to GoSpoken’s service, with authors including Cecelia Ahern, Patricia Cornwell and Stephen King available for download. More than 1,000 titles are available on GoSpoken’s website.
