Macmillan Children's Books has made further changes to its publishing team, appointing Venetia Gosling to the role of fiction publishing director.
Gosling moves from her role as fiction editorial director at Simon & Schuster, which she joined in 2003 having worked at Hodder for 10 years. Her start date at MCB is 19th March, ahead of the Bologna Book Fair. Gosling will report to publisher Belinda Rasmussen, and succeeds Ruth Alltimes who left at the end of December 2012 to join HarperCollins Children's Books.
Also joining MCB will be Rachel Kellehar, who will start in February in the role of editor working across fiction and non-fiction, moving from her position as editor at A&C Black, Bloomsbury.
Meanwhile, Rachel Petty has been promoted to commissioning editor and will report to Gosling, commissioning new fiction titles for readers of six and up. Polly Nolan will remain as associate publishing director.
Rasmussen said: "Venetia has exactly the right commercial instincts and inquisitive spirit required to expand our bestselling and prize-winning list, and her arrival is such good news for authors and agents. The new fiction structure, including newly appointed Alyx Price and Catherine Alport in communications, will enable us to move nimbly to react to market trends and create the buzz needed to reach readers directly and achieve global successes."
Gosling called the job a "fantastic opportunity" and said: "I am especially excited to be joining the company now, during a period of such dynamic change and with such big plans for the future."
Pan Macmillan m.d. Anthony Forbes Watson said: "Venetia's appointment is a statement of our ambition for children's fiction and for Pan Macmillan's fiction business as a whole."
The announcements follow last week’s news that Scholastic staffers Alyx Price and Catherine Alport are moving to MCB.
