Macmillan and 21st Century in Chinese joint venture
20.08.12 | Charlotte Williams
Macmillan Publishers and 21st Century Publishing House Co. have launched the Macmillan Century Consulting & Service Company, a joint venture in children's publishing in China.
Macmillan Century will acquire, develop, introduce and promote copyrighted children's titles sourced from Macmillan's publishing companies and imprints around the world.
The company will be led by Zhang Quilin, the president of 21st Century Publishing House Co., and Charlotte Liu, the Macmillan Group's managing director for Greater China. Included in Macmillan Century's list will be titles by authors Emily Gravett and William Steig, as well as titles such as Dear Zoo. The first titles were soft-launched earlier this year.
Liu said: "We believe Macmillan Century is in a unique position at the outset, as it has the advantage of combining Macmillan's carefully selected children's classics and bestsellers with 21st Century's strong distribution channels within the Chinese children's book market."
