Orion is to publish a biography of the late singer-songwriter Lou Reed by rock writer Mick Wall.
Non-fiction editorial director Jane Sturrock bought world rights in Wild Side: The Life and Death of Lou Reed from Robert Kirby at United Agents, with a publication date of 5th December.
Wall said of the one-time Velvet Underground frontman: “In his lifetime he was called, variously, the Godfather of Punk, the High Priest of Glam, the Phantom of Rock and all sorts of similarly tremble-tremble sobriquets. The truth is, Lou Reed began where rock left off. Before him, it was about entertainment. After him, rock was literary, dark, disturbing, above all, disquietingly honest.”
Sturrock commented: “Although a controversial, outspoken and undoubtedly misunderstood musician, Lou Reed's influence on popular culture cannot be overstated. Mick Wall's fascinating biography, Wild Side, reveals the man behind the legend and will be a must-read for fans.”
Wild Side will be a £14.99 hardback and £7.99 e-book.
