HarperCollins Children’s Books is celebrating the publication of the final Skulduggery Pleasant book – The Dying of the Light - with a live, immersive fan event.
The event, entitled the Theatre of Shadows, will take place 27th September in Dublin and will see participants “save” Skulduggery and Valkyrie, the main characters in the series, in real life venues the city. Derek Landy, author of the series, will be on hand to storify the event online.
The Dying of the Light will hit the shelves 28th August and is the last book in the Skulduggery Pleasant fantasy series, which is about how a powerful magician (Skulduggery) and a girl (Stephanie Edgley, later called Valkyrie) come together to defend the world from evil beings.
HarperCollins is also organising a masked ball in London on the book’s release date, and signings in London, Bournemouth, Sheffield, Newcastle, Dublin, Belfast Limerick and Galway.
“Working with Derek Landy on Skulduggery Pleasant for the last eight years has been an incredible privilege,” said editorial director Nick Lake. “The Dying of the Light… is a truly remarkable piece of work and a tour de force of a conclusion.”
The Dying of the Light is the ninth book in the series, which started in 2007. So far, the series has sold 1,161,190 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan data.
