Literary stars including Mark Haddon, Joanne Harris and Quentin Blake are to 'Push the Envelope' to raise money for the National Literacy Trust. Celebrities have been asked to design an envelope based on the theme 'The Words That Mean the Most to you' as part of the sixth annual Pitney Bowes ‘Pushing the Envelope’ charity campaign. The stationary will then be auctioned off on eBay on 2nd November, with all of the proceeds going to the National Literacy Trust.
Patrick Jelly, managing director at Pitney Bowes UK, said: "Pushing the Envelope provides a fantastic opportunity for people to buy an original piece of art by a favourite celebrity for themselves or as a truly individual gift."
National Literacy Trust director Jonathan Douglas, said: "Poor literacy affects millions of children, young people and adults in the UK today. The National Literacy Trust campaigns to raise awareness of the vital importance of literacy and delivers innovative projects to reach those most in need of support." He added that the money raised from the campaign "can help more children, families and adults to develop a love of reading and the skills they need to fulfil their potential".
Those who have already designed envelopes include Sir Ian McKellen who has provided a Shakespeare-inspired design and Colin Jackson with 'sunshine'.
