Legend Press has signed Swiss author Zoe Jenny for her first ever novel written in English. Tom Chalmers, managing director of Legend Press, acquired world rights direct from the author for the “highest [amount] we have paid to date”. Legend will publish it as a trade paperback in May 2010.
Jenny’s first novel The Pollen Room was published in 1997, and is the best-selling debut novel by a Swiss author. It was translated into 27 languages, and published around the world, including by Bloomsbury in the UK.
Chalmers said: “After hearing Zoe was going to write her first novel in English, I have been pleading with her to let me see it as soon as it was finished. As soon as I started reading it, I knew we had something special.”
Chalmers said he expected The Sky is Changing to be “a landmark move” for Legend, “signing one of Europe’s most acclaimed authors and further promoting her fantastic writing in the UK and on a global level”.
