Global e-reading service Kobo has appointed Pieter Swinkels as its new director of publisher and industry relations for Europe.
Swinkels, who has worked for publishers De Bezige Bij and Cargo, will be responsible for driving Kobo's "ambitious" expansion into the European market, acquiring new titles and new publishers.
Executive vice president Michael Tamblyn said Swinkels had a reputation throughout Europe and elsewhere for being an "innovative, forward-thinking" publisher. “His long-time passion for the publishing and e-reading, combined with his in-depth experience and strong European relationships, makes him the perfect person to present Kobo’s global eReading service to the European publishing community,” Tamblyn said.
The United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Netherlands currently have the highest European Kobo user counts, but the company said it is quickly expanding its audience in Spain, Portugal and Italy – especially as partners.
