Kings Road Publishing has partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe and its studio Media Molecule to create a new range of official licensed PlayStation titles, including a PlayStation colouring book.
The new titles will launch under the imprint Studio Press’ games list, Studio Game. The deal was brokered by Perminder Mann, c.e.o. of Kings Road Publishing, creative director Helen Wicks and head of digital and social media Nick Coveney with Claire Coopland and David Evans at Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE).
Art for the Players: The official colouring book from PlayStation is the first title to be published as part of the partnership, set to be released in November, priced £9.99. It is intended to be a "celebration of the art behind the world’s leading gaming console and its beloved brands", containing artwork from game series such as LittleBigPlanet, Heavy Rain, God Of War, Journey, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn, Lemmings, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank and WipEout, among others. It will also chart the "iconic design" of PlayStation consoles through its 20-year history.
Studio Game will also be publishing individual titles, as part of the Media Molecule book publishing programme, named after and for games LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet 2, Tearaway, Tearaway Unfolded and forthcoming "community creation" game Dreams. It will include multiple formats with publication dates, titles and prices to be confirmed, although expected to be released in early 2017.
The books will be available through traditional retailers, as well as dedicated shops for gamers where the books will be available alongside officially licensed PlayStation-related merchandise and accessories.
Mann, c.e.o., Kings Road Publishing, said: "SIEE and Media Molecule are the perfect fit as long-term partners for our new list, Studio Game. These titles will continue to drive the publishing revolution at Kings Road Publishing as we have done previously with bestselling titles from Alfie Deyes’ at Blink and the market leading Harry Potter Colouring range at Studio Press. I’m thrilled that we’ll be working with SIEE as a long-term publishing partner."
Coveney, head of digital and social media at Kings Road Publishing, said: "SIEE is an innovative tech leader that intimately understands its audience and their needs. PlayStation has continually pushed the boundaries of console gaming creating outstanding digital experiences, which are loved by millions of gamers. Our titles in both app and book format will be perfect for the players."
According to SIEE, its PlayStation2 is the bestselling games console of all time, having sold 157m worldwide. As of May 2016, its sales of PlayStation4 exceeded 40m units.
