King and Straub for Orion
13.02.12 | Charlotte Williams
Orion has acquired The Talisman and sequel Black House by bestselling duo Stephen King and Peter Straub.
Deputy publisher Malcolm Edwards acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in a 10-year licence for both titles through Chris Lotts at the Lotts Agency, including paperback and digital publishing rights. Both books will be published in paperback and e-book formats on 5th July.
The Talisman, originally published in 1984 and the first collaboration between King and Straub, charts the adventures of young boy, Jack Sawyer, on a quest to find The Talisman in order to save his dying mother. In Black House, an adult Sawyer is forced out of his early retirement from the LAPD by a serial killer preying on children. In order to save the next victim he has to retrieve his childhood memories of his adventures in a parallel universe.
Edwards said: "As Peter Straub's publishers, and also the publishers of Stephen King's The Green Mile, we're delighted to have acquired the rights to these two epic collaborations."
