Glamour model Katie Price will be honoured as a "Reading Hero" at a Downing Street reception hosted by Sarah Brown, wife of the prime minister.

Price, who has autobiographies, novels and children’s books to her name, was chosen as the celebrity who has done the most to encourage children or adults to get reading this year in a public vote held on the National Year of Reading (NYR) website. She will join 33 other Reading Heroes nominated by an NYR panel at the Downing Street event next February.

The Reading Heroes also include novelist Anthony Horowitz and mobster-turned-writer Louis Ferrante, together with many less famous individuals who have either achieved inspiring successes in their own reading or who have worked to promote and encourage reading in their communities, whether in schools, libraries, the workplace, or other environments such as foster care, prison or psychiatric units.

The Sun is carrying a four page pull-out Christmas reading supplement today (Thursday 18th December), which announces the Reading Heroes and has Price on its front cover, explaining how she reads to her own children.

Brown said: "I will be proud to welcome The Sun’s Reading Heroes to Number 10 in the New Year. I have been moved and inspired to hear the stories of how they improved their own reading, and then used the skills they learned to help others." She described them as "a credit to our country."
