Joyner new HarperFiction editorial director
22.02.12 | Katie Allen
Louisa Joyner is to take up the permanent role of editorial director at HarperFiction, reflecting a strategy to grow commissioning in literary fiction.
Joyner, who had worked as publishing director at the company covering maternity leave, will report to Katie Espiner, working to expand HarperFiction’s historical and literary fiction list, which includes authors such as Tracy Chevalier, Lionel Shriver and Bernard Cornwell.
Joyner said: “I’m genuinely delighted to be a permanent member of the HarperFiction team. I’m thrilled to be working with a truly impressive team who publish with real passion.
"Starting the Austen project with support from people at every level has been an amazing experience and commissioning Joanna Trollope and Curtis Sittenfeld to pen their own versions of Sense & Sensibility and Pride & Prejudice, will be among the highlights of my publishing career.’
Espiner said: “Louisa has quickly established herself as an integral part of the fiction team and I am delighted that she has agreed to stay permanently. She has brilliant publishing instincts and she will be a great addition to the department.”
Joyner began her career at Atlantic Books, where she began as editorial assistant and ascended to the position of editorial director. She then moved to Random House where she worked as editorial director for Virgin.
