Jobs biog sells 379,000 copies Stateside

Walter Isaacson's biography of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs sold 379,000 copies in the US in its first week on bookshop shelves, BookScan US data has revealed.

The $35 publication, published by Simon & Schuster in the US, outsold the next bestselling book of the week, John Grisham's The Litigators (Doubleday) by more than three copies to one, and outsold the second most popular non-fiction work, journalist Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln (Henry Holt), by almost eight copies to one.

Despite being on sale for just six days in the US, Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography is already the 18th bestselling book of the year. It sits one place ahead of John Grisham's The Confession (Dell) and one place behind Rick Riordan's The Son of Neptune (Hyperion) in the year-to-date BookScan US bestseller list.

Walter Isaacson’s 656-page biography scored the biggest week of sales for any book in the US since November last year, when Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth (Amulet) and George W Bush's Decision Points (Crown) both sold more than 430,000 copies at US booksellers in the seven days to 13th November.

Earlier today (2nd November), The Bookseller revealed that the UK edition of the book became one of the fastest-selling non-fiction books since records began thanks to a sale of 37,244 copies in its first week on release.
