White Stripes musician Jack White’s record label Third Man Records has launched a publishing arm called Third Man Books.
Third Man Records announced the launch with a press release on its website, saying the publishing arm will be “fearless, imaginative, and eclectic” and hopes “to be a welcome addition to what is already a very compelling and thrilling independent American literary landscape”.
The first title it will publish is a collection of contemporary poetry and prose co-edited by Chet Weise and Third Man Records’ co-founder Ben Swank, Language Lessons: Volume 1. The 321-page hardbound book will include work by Pulitzer Prize for Fiction nominee Dale Ray Philips; National Book Award finalist and National Book Critics Circle winner in poetry, C D Wright and Adrian Matejka, a National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist in poetry. The books will also include poetry from Frank Stanford, Brian Barker, Jake Adam York and Chet Weise as well as feature original artwork from illustrator Jim Blanchard and musicians Jim Blanchard and Butch Anthony. Two vinyl LPs of music from artists such as William Tyler, Destruction Unit and Sampson Starkweather will accompany the book.
The title will be published on 5th August 2014 and sold in “discerning book and record stores the world over”. It is now available for pre-sale at the Third Man Store.
