Icon Books has signed a deal with renowned primatologist Dame Jane Goodall, for a book of survival stories about formerly endangered species.
Animals such as the Iberian lynx, peregrine falcon, rufous hare wallaby and the giant panda feature in Hope for Animals and the World, which was co-written by Gail Hudson and Thane Maynard, and acquired from US publisher Grand Central. Icon holds British Commonwealth rights.
M.d. Simon Flynn said it was "an inspirational and optimistic book, written in admiration of the numerous individuals who risk their lives to save animals from the brink of extinction".
He added: "At a time when animal species are becoming extinct on every continent and we are confronted with bad news about the environment nearly every day, Jane Goodall . . . brings us new hope for the future of the animal kingdom."
The book is due out next January, 50 years since Goodall's first visit to the Gombe Stream National Park where the study of chimps would make her name.
