Hudson on Guardian First Book shortlist
08.11.12 | Katie Allen
Kerry Hudson's debut for Chatto has scored a second prize shortlisting in a week, with a nomination for the Guardian First Book Award.
Her novel Tony Hogan Bought Me an Ice Cream Before He Stole My Ma was also shortlisted for the Green Carnation Prize this week.
It joins The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers (Sceptre), The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach (Fourth Estate), Sandstorm by Lindsey Hilsum (Faber) and Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo (Portobello).
The shortlist for the £10,000 prize was picked by a judging panel chaired by the Guardian's Lisa Allardice in collaboration with five Waterstones reading groups.
Allardice said: "The books on this year's shortlist, fiction and non-fiction, range across the globe and confront some of the most urgent issues of recent years: from the slums of Mumbai to Aberdeen's sink estates; to the frontline in Iraq and the Libyan revolution—not forgetting an already hit novel about American college baseball.
"They are all impressive and strikingly original achievements. The judging lunch promises to be long and lively. . ."
The winner will be announced on 29th November. Previous winners of the prize include Zadie Smith and Jonathan Safran Foer.
