HoZ buys fantasy debut

Head of Zeus has acquired a debut fantasy novel by British author, A J Smith.
Commissioning editor Mathilda Imlah bought UK and Commonwealth rights to two novels in the fantasy series from Diane Banks Associates, with the first, The Black Guard, to be published in the summer of 2013.
Imlah said: "Saturated with myth and with all the page-turning qualities we expect from our very best storytellers, in A J Smith I believe we may have finally found the British rival to Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. Head of Zeus are deeply committed to making the series an international success."
