Hot Key hires Orringer, extends digital
22.08.12 | Charlotte Williams
Hot Key Books has hired Amy Orringer as digital coordinator as the children's publisher expands its digital output.
Orringer, who has previously worked as a teacher and as a non-profit strategist, will report to Sarah Benton, sales and marketing manager, and Sara O'Connor, editorial director of print and digital.
Managing director Sarah Odedina said: "Amy's passion, initiative and experience is the perfect catalyst to expand our existing conversations with people who love books."
Orringer added: "I am thrilled to be part of such a dynamic team and I am so excited about building on an already strong digital foundation."
Orringer will be responsible for bringing young readers closer to the publishing process, and will aim to expand conversations with readers across Hot Key's digital platforms, including social media, the publisher's blog and newly-launched website, www.hotkeybooks.com, as well as live events.
Meanwhile, Hot Key Books has signed up to Apple's iBook programme, with enhanced digital versions of selected Hot Key titles to be built through Apple's iBooks Author platform. The first iBook, Maggot Moon Multi-Touch edition by Sally Gardner will be released in September. The political romance A World Between Us by Lydia Syson will be published in October.
In addition, all Hot Key titles will now be published in digital simultaneously alongside the first print edition.
In 2013, Hot Key is also launching a five-month "live" writing project with author F R Hitchcock, to write a user-generated sequel to her debut, Shrunk!, with schools and libraries to be involved.
