Hodder/HCB sign up Doodlemum double
01.01.70 | Katie Allen
Hodder and Hodder Children's Books have jointly acquired two titles from the daily blogger of family life, Doodlemum.
Two Roads publisher Lisa Highton and Emma Layfield, editorial director of picture books at Hodder Children's Books, bought world rights from Araminta Whitley and Philippa Milnes-Smith of Lucas Alexander Whitley for an adult gift book and a children's book from the blogger, Angie Stevens.
Two Roads will publish Doodlemum: A Year of Family Life next February, withthe children's picture book to be published in autumn 2013.
Highton said: "From the first moment we saw Doodlemum’s drawings, we all knew we wanted to publish her. Her work is exceptional—she really captures those landmarks of family life we can all recognise in such a tender and appealing way. The world of Doodlemum is warm and cosy and oh so real whether she’s recording those daily moments of her children’s life or her never-empty washing basket."
Layfield likened Doodlemum's work to that of Posy Simmonds, and said: "Her illustrations speak from the heart and will strike a chord with children and parents everywhere."
