Hodder tees up Clarke biography for autumn

Hodder & Stoughton has acquired an autobiography by Northern Irish golfer Darren Clarke, who was made an OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to golf.

Sports publisher Roddy Bloomfield acquired world rights, excluding China, Hong Kong and the US, through agency ISM Sports Management. The book, as yet untitled, will be published in October 2012.

Clarke will talk about his fellow golfers, the competitions and championships, and his future in golf. He began his career working as a caddie for his father, who was a course superintendent. He turned professional in 1990 aged 22, and played his first full season on the European Tour in 1991. He has since played in five Ryder Cup tournaments for the European team, winning four, most notably in 2006 when he returned to the game just six weeks after his wife Heather's death from cancer at the age of 39. In 2002, he established the Darren Clarke Foundation to further the development of junior golf in Ireland.

Bloomfield said: "We're just so pleased about Darren, I'm thrilled to have him."
