Hodder & Stoughton imprint Coronet has signed two thrillers by the former commander of the Special Branch Roger Pearce.
UK & Commonwealth rights acquired for an undisclosed sum by Mark Booth from Sonia Land at Sheil Land Associates.
The publisher said Pearce's experience of running surveillance and undercover operations against terrorists and extremists had given him "a unique insight" to base his "terrifyingly realistic" writing on.
The first book, Sentinel, features "maverick" Special Branch operative John Kerr who receives a tip off from MI6 about a Syrian terrorist and unravels a plot that has infiltrated the very heart of the British government.
Booth said: "As soon as I started reading Roger Pearce's script I knew this was something new. Roger's script is driven by a fund of stories from direct personal experience of the secret war being fought in this country, from hand to hand fighting on the streets to briefings with Tony Blair at Number 10.
"Other writers may imagine how the undercover war is fought, the shifting alliances of the major players on the world stage. Roger knows."
