The History Press has sold its US subsidiary to the American local history company Arcadia Publishing.
The sale figure has not been released, but the company said the deal made Arcadia Publishing “the largest local history publishing group in the USA.”
Stuart Biles, chief executive of The History Press Ltd, said: “We are enormously proud of the fine company we have built together in just a few short years. We're extremely sad to see the business leave, but have to recognise the significant benefits which will be achieved by joining The History Press Inc with Arcadia, both creatively and operationally. I am sure the business will go from strength to strength under Brittain Phillips’ continuing leadership and the guidance and experience of Richard Joseph and his senior team.” He added: “We thank everyone at THP Inc. for the tremendous contribution they have made to our group.”
Arcadia Publishing chief executive, Richard Joseph said that buying the US arm of The History Press made his company stronger. “We’re joining the talented staff of two great companies and together we’ll continue creating books people love. We hear moving stories from readers every day that remind us that the content we produce is personal, relevant, and valuable.”
Arcadia Publishing is the largest publisher of local and regional books in the USA with over 9,000 titles in print and 600 new titles released each year. Its flagship series is ‘Images of America’.
THP Inc has empowered history enthusiasts to write local stories for local audiences and since 2004 it has published more than 2,000 local and regional titles in the US.
In January, The History Press has sold its Germany-based historical picture book subsidiary Sutton Verlag to GeraNova Bruckmann Verlagshaus for an undisclosed sum.
