The History Press has signed its 10th new title on the sinking of the Titanic, to be published in the run-up to the centenary of the disaster in 2012.
Amy Rigg, commissioning editor for transport, signed world English language rights to The Man Who Sank Titanic? The Troubled Life of Quartermaster Robert Hichens in an unagented deal.
The title, which will be published in October 2011, is written by Sally Nilsson about her great-grandfather, the quartermaster on the doomed ship who was given the order 'Hard-a-starboard' to steer the Titanic away from the iceberg. He was also accused of failing to go back and rescue passengers after lifeboats were jettisoned.
Other titles lined up by THP for 2011 include Titanic in Photographs by Bruce Beveridge, Steve Hall, Art Braunschweiger, Daniel Klistorner & Scott Andrews; Titanic Captain The Life of Edward John Smith by Gary Cooper; and Titanic: The Myths and Legacy of a Disaster by Roger and June Cartwright.
