Hughes & Hughes stores in Dublin and Cork airports will continue to trade on a day to day basis while the receiver searches for a buyer, according to a member of the receiver's team.
Noel Brown, a member of David Carson's team at Deloitte, said all 80 staff at the six Dublin Airport stores and an unconfirmed number at the outlet at Cork Airport have retained their jobs for the time being, and stores are trading on existing stock. All other stores remain closed.
Brown said the airport shops are profitable, reports Irish Publishing News. Although he is not party to any negotiations, he said that "interest has been shown in the stores", although he could not comment on any identities. He added that the receiver would like to "conclude a deal sooner rather than later".
He admitted that it was "gloomy picture" as H&H does not "have many assets that can be realised", although he highlighted the asset value of the brand name.
Ireland's second biggest book retail chain went into receivership on Friday [26th February], endangering more than 200 jobs. W H Smith has been reported to be interested in the airport stores.
