Herralde to receive LBF Lifetime Achievement Award

The London Book Fair Lifetime Achievement Award for 2012 will be awarded to Jorge Herralde, proprietor and director of Hispanic publisher Editorial Anagrama.

The award is judged by the LBF Advisory Board, and aims to recognise individuals who have made a "truly significant mark in the sphere of global publishing".

Herralde founded Editorial Anagrama in 1969, and the publisher has a list of Spanish and Latin American writers including Roberto Bolano and Javier Marias, as well as writers in translation such as Vladimir Nabokov, Truman Capote and Jack Kerouac.

Herralde has already been awarded an OBE and Commandeur de l'Odre des Arts et des Lettres.

Alistair Burtenshaw, LBF director, said: “Editorial Anagrama is a bastion of publishing excellence, combining quality with a real drive to identify undiscovered literary talent . . . Jorge has worked ceaselessly to promote the international reputation of Hispanic literature, which has in turn been invigorated by the peerless collection of foreign authors translated for the first time for Spanish readers.

"We are proud to be awarding to him the London Book Fair Lifetime Achievement Award for 2012.”

Herralde said: "I feel happily surprised and honoured to accept this prize from The London Book Fair, previously awarded to such eminent colleagues."

Previous winners of the award include Lynette Owen of Pearson Education; Lord Weidenfeld of Weidenfeld & Nicolson; and, last year, Sonny Mehta of Alfred A Knopf.
