Stella Duffy, Philip Hensher and Sandi Toksvig are among the authors longlisted for the Green Carnation Prize 2102.
The award is in its third year and now goes to any form of the written word written by a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered writer.
This year's longlist comprises: Carol Anshaw's Carry the One (Penguin), Alison Bechdel's Are You My Mother? and Bill Clegg's Ninety Days (both Jonathan Cape), Stella Duffy's The Purple Shroud and Sandi Toksvig's Valentine Grey (both Virago), Patrick Flanery's Absolution (Atlantic), Patrick Gale's A Perfectly Good Man and Philip Hensher's Scenes from an Early Life (4th Estate), Kerry Hudson's Tony Hogan Bought Me An Ice Cream Before He Stole Me Ma (Chatto), Jess Richards' Snake Ropes (Sceptre), Keith Ridgway's Hawthorn & Child (Granta), Andre Carl Van Der Merwe's Moffie (Europa) and Edmund White's Jack Holmes and His Friend (Bloomsbury).
The longlist was described as "another exceptionally exciting list of books from contemporary novels to historical, graphic novels and fictionalised memoirs" by the prize's honorary director Simon Savidge. Chair of the judging panel is bookseller Rodney Troubridge, with Savidge, last year's winner Catherine Hall, photographer and DJ Dom Agius and The Bookseller's web editor Katie Allen making up the panel.
The shortlist will be announced on 5th November.
