Heneage novels to Quercus
08.05.12 | Charlotte Williams
Quercus' Heron Books imprint has acquired three novels by Ottakar's founder James Heneage, pre-empting the trilogy of historical novels for a six-figure sum.
Heron Books head Susan Watt bought British Commonwealth rights in The Mistra Trilogy by Heneage through Natasha Fairweather at A P Watt, with plans to publish the first book, as yet untitled, in summer 2013.
Watt said: "This is such a pleasure. James Heneage, long a supporter of historical novels when a bookseller, has now delivered a rich, remarkable series, featuring three families whose crossed allegiances, plots and passions are played out with a lively cast of characters against a background of epic scale: Byzantine and Ottoman empires, warring states and tribes, divided churches and religions, ruthless traders and the mythic power of the hidden relics."
Quercus executive director David North called it "a remarkably engaging debut novel, which brings a fresh voice to the epic historical novel. We look forward to working with him in new career as a bestselling writer."
