HC's Heller moves to Quercus
07.09.11 | Lisa Campbell
HarperCollins publishing director Jenny Heller is moving to Quercus, where she will help to grow the publisher's non-fiction business.
Heller will begin her role, again as publishing director, on 10th October, and will "contribute significantly to the next phase of growth as the company moves to being a significant medium-sized publisher".
Mark Smith, Quercus c.e.o., said: "I am delighted that Jenny is joining Quercus as her expertise in areas of non-fiction that are new to Quercus will be essential to supporting the development of our non-fiction publishing.
"Growing our non-fiction business is a key part of our ambition for future years and expanding into new areas such as cookery has long been an ambition. The Quercus non-fiction programme has had notable successes in 2011, such as The King's Speech, Dead Men Risen and An Epic Swindle, all of which have been top 10 bestsellers and we look forward to Jenny's authors joining the bestseller charts in the future.”
Over the past six years Heller has helped HarperCollins publish a broad range of non-fiction, including cookery and lifestyle titles from Rachel Allen and Levi Roots. Heller also acquired Arianna Huffington's Third World America, Ryan Tubridy's JFK in Ireland and Egyptian revolutionary Wael Ghonim.
She said: "I am completely thrilled to be joining Quercus at such an exciting time. They are vibrant, forward-thinking and creative, I have watched with keen interest as they have gone from strength to strength, and now can't wait to join them in October and help build on an already impressive and growing non-fiction list."

Very impressed that Quercus are working the Bookseller so well.
3Press releases a week.
1 A new finance director joining , 2 How they are going to spend lots of money growing the team to 100 and be knocking Pan Mac out of the top 5,[or maybe not if they blow up with too much cost] and now 3. Jenny Heller joins to help them to do it . Somehow I think we now get it .
Hi Julian. Stories one and three you mention indeed came from Quercus, but the story about its plans for growth sprang from Bookseller investigations, and was not a press release, as has been falsely inferred elsewhere on the site.
Thanks, Katie
You're getting even grumpier than me Julian. Wine or vinegar, that's the question for us oldies...
OK Let's add "Quercus signs 50cents Bullying novel" instead Katie.
It's great PR manipulation that's all , I've done it myself many times so no criticism but of course I was quizzed a bit more robustly when at Dillons and Bertrams. It was o.k when a publisher at Thorsons , the Bookseller took everything hook line and sinker .The Bookseller seems to be more sceptical about er... booksellers
Still, congratulations to Jenny! Good to have some positive news...
