Orchard Books, part of the Hachette Children’s Group, has signed a publishing deal for additional formats with The Pokémon Company.
The publisher is building on the “huge success” of the first licensed titles published in November last year.
The new deal will cover multiple formats including a wider range of sticker activity books, novelty, fiction and early reader titles, with four fiction books launching in June 2017.
Katie Price, licensing director for Hachette Children’s Group, said: “We are thrilled to have agreed this new deal with The Pokémon Company across a range of additional formats. We’ve seen incredible success with the first licensed titles, especially The Official Pokémon Encyclopedia which has sold over 75,000 through lifetime TCM. This is a brand which continues to build momentum and we’re excited to be able to fulfill the huge demand for a broader range of publishing under this license.”
Orchard Books currently publishes four official Pokémon titles: The Official Pokémon Encyclopedia, The Official Pokémon Creative Colouring book, The Official Pokémon Sticker Book and The Official Pokémon Legendary 1001 Stickers, with a fifth to follow in April: The Official Pokémon Sticker Activity Book.
The Official Pokémon Encyclopedia is a bestselling title for the group, with lifetime TCM sales standing at 82,636 through Nielsen, and weekly sales consistently hitting over the 2k mark. It sold 2,774 copies last week.
