HarperCollins Children’s Books has acquired a humorous middle-grade series from Nigel Smith, the scriptwriter behind BBC Radio 4’s Vent comedy.
The first book, Nathalia Buttface and the Most Embarrassing Dad in the World, will hit the shelves in May this year, with books two and three to follow at six month periods.
Nick Lake, publishing director at HarperCollins Children's Books, acquired the series in a pre-emptive deal from Ivan Mulcahy of Mulcahy Conway Associates.
“It’s extremely rare that a book makes me laugh out loud,” he said. “Nathalia Buttface… made me laugh until strangers looked at my funnily on a crowded tube. Anarchic, silly and clever, it’s packed with every kind of comedy – but it’s also truly moving.”
