HC scores with Alan Hodgkinson memoir
24.07.12 | Joshua Farrington
HarperCollins is marking the summer of sports with a new title from former England goalkeeper Alan Hodgkinson.
His autobiography will be published in May 2013, and will trace the footballer’s career from Sheffield United, to playing at two World Cups, and then coaching at Manchester United and Scotland.
UK and Commonwealth rights were bought by Rory Scarfe, HarperSport editorial director, from Julian Alexander at LAW.
Scarfe said: “Alan’s story reads like football fantasy: a working-class lad from Sheffield who signed a club contract at 15 in return for his first suit and went on to play for England and then coach at Manchester United.”
Hodginkson, currently a coach at Oxford United, said: “In 2013 I will celebrate my Diamond Jubilee in football and thought the time apposite to commit my story to book form, or, Kindle! I was taken aback by the sheer level of interest; however, I am delighted to link up with such a renowned publisher as HarperCollins.”
