HarperCollins is in early talks about merging with Simon & Schuster, according to reports in the US media.
The Wall Street Journal, which is published by News Corp, the same company which owns HC, said the company had made an approach to S&S’s parent company CBS Corp, expressing an interest in buying the business.
According to the WSJ, insiders close to the deal describe the talks as “preliminary” and suggest a deal is not “imminent”.
On 29th October, Penguin and Random House confirmed they were merging in a deal that could see them become around 25% of the trade publishing industry once the move is agreed by regulators.
News Corp reportedly placed a bid for Penguin during the process, but Penguin’s parent company Pearson ultimately decided to work with RH’s German owners, Bertelsmann.
