HC acquires YA crime thriller
24.01.11 | Charlotte Williams
HarperCollins Children's Books has acquired a YA crime thriller by debut author Jill Hathaway.
Publishing director Rachel Denwood bought UK and Commonwealth rights, at auction, through Julia Churchill at Greenhouse Literary. The title, Slide, will be published in 2012 simultaneously with HarperCollins US imprint,
Balzer & Bray.
The book tells the story of teenager Vee, who suffers from narcolepsy and slides into other people's heads when she passes out. After one attack, she finds herself in the head of a killer and standing over the body of her
sister's friend, and is placed at the centre of a murder investigation.
Denwood said: "We had been talking about the potential of YA crime thrillers, and I couldn't believe my luck when Jill's utterly compelling debut landed on my desk. With its killer conceptual edge, and complicated, empathetic protagonist, Slide has fantastic potential."
