HC acquires series by Jeffers
08.03.10 | Graeme Neill
HarperCollins has signed a new deal with its picture book illustrator Oliver Jeffers for a new character series called The Hueys.
Deputy publisher Kate Burns bought world rights to four books, including television, merchandising, licensing, film, e-book, e-version, and digital rights, from Paul Moreton at The Bell Lomax Moreton Agency for an undisclosed sum.
The first book will be published in 2012 and was described by the publisher as centering around "a group of quirky creatures whose left-of-centre humour has such immediate child-appeal that soon every book featuring the idiosyncratic and engaging characters will be avidly collected by children the world over".
Burns described the acquisition as "perfect for a multi-platform launch to target today’s technology-friendly child".
She added: "The Hueys' publishing programme will dovetail brilliantly with Oliver’s existing and ongoing publishing for HarperCollins, so his fans can still look forward to classic picture books as well as enjoying his new character series – after all, you can’t have too much of a good thing."
