Haynes Publishing is launching its first range of e-books and selling them independently through its own website, bypassing traditional digital retailers such as Amazon.
The independent publisher, which is best known for its illustrated vehicle owner's guides, will release a range of special-interest titles in the ePub format, making them available for tablets including iPads, Sony e-readers, and Android devices.
Books available at launch include a Bernie Ecclestone biography, Bernie; Tiff Needell's Tiff Gear; and Formula 1 title Memories of Senna.
Jeremy Yates-Round, m.d. at Haynes, said: "We’re very excited to be making some of our most popular titles available as e-books and we’re particularly proud to be doing so independently. Haynes has developed both the product and delivery system through our HaynesPRO division using entirely in-house resources so that we can offer our best-loved titles electronically at competitive prices."
He added: "We are confident this is a significant move forward for the publishing industry which will benefit customers by bringing more competition into online book delivery."
Yates-Round also announced the launch of interactive versions of Haynes manuals, including video, audio, search functions and conversion calculators. A year's subscription to their Ford Fiesta Owners Workshop Manual costs £25, while a lifetime subscription costs £30.
