Headline has signed a three-book deal with Harriet Evans, who formerly worked at the company as editorial director and is moving after 10 years of being published by HarperCollins.
The first book in the deal will be A Place For Us.
Mari Evans, publishing director at Headline, signed the deal with Jonathan Lloyd at Curtis Brown for UK and Commonwealth rights.
Mari Evans said: “Harriet and I have known one another for many years and I’ve always been a fan of her writing but I never dreamed it would be possible for us to work together – finally the stars came into alignment.
“A Place for Us represents a remarkable step change, I began reading on a dark Friday evening and emerged blinking into the light a day later, deeply moved and uplifted by this magical novel.
“For so many reasons, Headline feels like Harriet’s home and we’re itching to get our publishing underway.”
Harriet Evans said: “After almost 10 happy years at HarperCollins I felt it was time for a change.
“I am over the moon to be joining Headline and feel very privileged to be working with Mari and the team. I couldn’t be more excited about the future.”
Headline will publish digital editions in autumn 2014, with a paperback original scheduled for January 2015.
