Two publicity professionals have moved from Bloomsbury to HarperCollins.
Lily Capewell and Joe Thomas are joining HarperCollins' imprints HQ and Mills & Boon respectively in newly-created roles. Capewell will become senior press officer on 24th August and Thomas will join as press officer on the same day.
The HQ and Mills & Boon publicity team currently comprises of senior press officer, Lucy Richardson, and head of publicity, Sophie Calder.
Capewell has handled PR campaigns on a wide range of non-fiction titles at Bloomsbury for the past year and won the PPC Best Newcomer Award 2017 for her campaign for Science and the City: The Mechanics Behind the Metropolis (Bloomsbury) by Laurie Winkless. She started her career in publishing as a PR assistant at Transworld and has two years of experience of working for Common Room PR agency. She has also worked in Disney’s publicity team.
Thomas has spent the last year as publicity and marketing assistant at Bloomsbury, working across fiction and cookery. He spent three years at at Waterstones Leeds and Harrogate where he was an event coordinator and lead bookseller and is also a booktuber at Bookseller Ravings.
“Connecting our books with readers is one of our most important tasks as a publisher,” HQ executive publisher, Lisa Milton, said. “So, I am delighted we’re increasing our publicity department under Sophie’s excellent leadership. Lily and Joe both bring great knowledge and experience, and I’m excited to see what they can achieve.
She added: “As a long-time fan of the power of publicity, I love seeing the direct correlation between publicity and sales.”
