HarperCollins has bought two children's books by designer and illustrator David Mackintosh. Deputy publisher Kate Burns bought world rights for two books, including merchandising rights, e-publishing, film and TV, for an undisclosed sum. The first book will be published in March 2011 and is entitled Marshall Armstrong is New to Our School.
Burns said: "David is well known in the children’s book world as a designer par excellence so I knew his own work would be a visual feast, and in Marshall Armstrong is New to Our School, David has also proved himself to be a witty, insightful and original author. He has taken a perennially popular picture book topic and has brought great humour, style and integrity to it, creating a character who will capture readers’ hearts and imaginations."
Among Mackintosh's work is illustrating picture and children's books for publishers including HarperCollins, Puffin, Random House and Reed.
