Hammer Books is to publish another Woman in Black ghost story, to tie in with a new film.
The Woman in Black: Angel of Death will be written by crime writer Martyn Waites, adapted from the new film, itself based on an idea by Susan Hill (pictured), author of the original book.
Century and Arrow publisher Selina Walker acquired world rights in The Woman in Black: Angel of Death from agent Jane Gregory. The first edition will be published in hardback in November.
The novel is set during the Blitz, with a group of schoolchildren and their young teacher evacuated from London to Eel Marsh House, "where of course the Woman in Black is waiting for them".
Walker said: "As a publisher this is, of course, hugely exciting for me and for Hammer Books. Susan and Jon have come up with a wonderful way of updating the story and moving it on, and Martyn Waites is perfectly placed to do it justice."
The Woman in Black: Angel of Death is part of the Hammer series of novellas which have so far included works by Helen Dunmore, Jeanette Winterson and Melvyn Burgess. More contributions are coming this year from Julie Myerson and Sophie Hannah, while in 2014, Lynne Truss and D B C Pierre will also be writing for the list.
