Hachette UK is investing in financial education workshops for under-30s to be offered to staff "several times a year in line with demand".
The introduction of the scheme, designed to help employees feel more in control of their finances, follows a pilot run in July, provided by consultancy Jelf Employee Benefits, and a further workshop that was run this month.
Initial feedback from attending staff following the pilot session, all of whom were aged 19-29, showed that 71% of participants had never received any financial education at school, and 78% of the group walked away feeling "more positively" towards Hachette, according to Employee Benefits.
Employees of all ages at Hachette are said to already receive financial education "support" with sessions, run by the same provider, honing in on savings and protection and how to maximise workplace benefits, as well as will writing.
Victoria Fletcher, group training and development manager at Hachette UK, said: “This is the first time we’ve offered a financial education course to such a segmented part of our workforce, and the results have been really positive. The pre- and post-survey feedback has really demonstrated that employees prefer to receive financial education with their immediate peers [because] it can be better targeted and therefore more beneficial.
“We’re delighted that staff appreciate our investment in helping them improve how they manage their money and equally pleased that many reported that they will be using aspects of the course in their day-to-day life.”
