Guardian partners with Audible
18.12.12 | Lisa Campbell
The Guardian has partnered with Amazon-owned Audible to provide a free audio edition of its newspaper.
The hour-long weekly audio programme will be produced by the newspaper, introduced by columnist Jonathan Freedland. It will include reviews on fiction and non-fiction content on Audible, hosted by Claire Armitstead, Guardian News & Media’s head of books, and Richard Lea, Guardian books writer, as well as invited guest reviewers.
As part of the partnership, Audible will also sponsor the Guardian Books homepage, its weekly books podcast and its books review pages, with co-branded advertising across the newspaper’s website and print edition. “As well as reviewing and critiquing each audiobook on its literary merits, the audiobooks panel will also discuss how narrative performance enhances the quality of the books,” the newspaper said.
Dipesh Morjaria, business director for multimedia at Guardian News & Media, said: “Our digital first strategy and open philosophy means we are constantly looking for new ways to showcase our content and engage new audiences, and The Guardian Audio Edition aims to do this by bringing the sound of the Guardian to life as the very best of our award-winning journalism is translated into spoken word.”
Emilie Marneur from Audible.co.uk, said she was “thrilled” to be working with The Guardian. “We know from our customers that digital spoken word is an essential medium through which they stay entertained and informed while getting the most from their mobile devices,” she said.
The Guardian Audio Edition will be available free of charge on Guardian.co.uk, Audible.co.uk , Soundcloud.com and iTunes.
