Gollancz is to reissue the first three books in George R R Martin’s long-running Wild Cards superheroes series with fresh covers. The trilogy was first published in the 1980s, but has been long out of print in the UK.
The series is created by a core group of writers, with Martin the overarching editor, and is still running, with a new title due out in 2014.
Gollancz will publish the first books in the series, Wild Cards, Wild Cards: Aces High and Wild Cards: Jokers Wild, in November (all trade paperback, £8.99).
Editor Marcus Gipps said: “Wild Cards is the longest-running shared world series [where each writer keeps the copyright to their own character and stories], with Roger Zelazny, Wilter Jon Williams and Melinda Snodgrass among the authors. It tapped into the use of a realistic atmosphere for superheroes in the novel in the same way that ‘Watchmen’ did for the graphic novel.”
If the books do well, Gollancz may bring out more titles from earlier in the series.
