Gollancz picks up fantasy adventure debut
18.06.12 | Charlotte Williams
Gollancz has acquired a debut fantasy adventure trilogy, the Crescent Moon Kingdom, by Saladin Ahmed.
Editor Marcus Gipps bought UK and Commonwealth rights from DAW via David Grossman of the David Grossman Literary Agency, with plans to publish the first title in the series, Throne of the Crescent Moon, in January 2013. Books two and three will follow a simultaneous publication schedule with America.
The books are set in the Crescent Moon Kingdoms, home to "ghuls, holy warriors and heretics", where a power struggle is taking place between the iron-fisted Khalif and the master thief, the Falcon Prince. A series of brutal supernatural murders strikes at the heart of the Kingdoms, with only a handful of heroes capable of learning the truth behind the killings.
Gipps said: "Saladin's debut novel is a wonderful piece of fantasy, with a fascinating (and under-represented) backdrop and a cast of characters who stay in the memory long after the book has ended. I've seen his plans for two and three of the trilogy, and I know that his readers are in for a treat."
