Gloucestershire and Somerset library ruling postponed

The judgment into Gloucestershire and Somerset library closures is now likely to be given on 16th November, a postponement from the original date (this Wednesday 9th November).

The judgment, to be handed down by Judge McKenna at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, will now follow the court of appeal's hearing into Brent's closures, due to take place this week (Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November).

In Gloucestershire the council proposes withdrawing funding from 10 of its original 32 libraries, as well as withdrawing the mobile service. In Somerset 11 of 34 libraries face losing funding, with cuts to the mobile service. Injunctions obtained by lawyers acting for local residents are currently preventing the plans from going ahead.
