Gardner signs deal with Hot Key
18.01.12 | Lisa Campbell
Hot Key Books has signed a one-book deal to publish Sally Gardner's latest title Maggot Moon.
Managing director of Hot Key, Sarah Odedina, signed world rights for the book in a deal via Catherine Clarke at Felicity Bryan Associates. The novel will tell of the power of friendship between two boys—Hector and Standish.
Odedina said: "In Maggot Moon, Sally has created a brilliant, nerve-wracking and utterly gripping fable that will hold readers spellbound. Standish is a fabulous character and his purpose and adventure will resonate with readers of all ages. It is a novel that will be read, talked about and admired well into the future."
Gardner said: "Maggot Moon is the book I always wanted to write and Hot Key Books is the perfect home for it."
The book will be published in hardback in September 2012.
Gardner, who published her first book in 1993, won the Nestle Children's Book Prize Gold Award in 2005 with I, Coriander. Her next novel, The Red Necklace, was shortlisted for the Guardian Book Prize in 2007, and The Silver Blade followed, published by Orion.
