Galaxy may discontinue its sponsorship of the National Book Awards, with the award’s manager, Agile Marketing, now in talks with other companies.
Agile Marketing m.d. Alastair Giles said Galaxy, which has sponsored the awards since 2007, has turned down its first refusal option on continuing its sponsorship, although he stressed that the company is still among the interested parties.
A Galaxy spokesperson said its sponsorship of the awards was “under review”, adding: “In the meantime, the brand remains committed to supporting reading and literacy as shown by our ongoing support for [adult reading programme] Quick Reads.”
Giles said the sponsorship deal hinged on the television coverage secured by the awards, with production company Cactus TV currently in conversation with various channels. The cut-off point for a new sponsorship deal will be the end of July, with the awards ceremony provisionally set for December.
