French chain Decitre launches online community
06.02.12 | Barbara Casassus
The Decitre chain of bookstores has created an online community to help consumers find books to suit their tastes.
EntréeLivre aims to bring together authors, readers, booksellers, publishers, librarians, or the "simply curious" in search of good advice, Decitre said in a statement. The site had already more than 100 booksellers on the site when it was launched last Thursday, and claims to offer more finely targeted recommendations than has been possible until now thanks to special powerful algorithms.
Choosing books has become extremely complicated, the statement added. Sixty thousand books are published in France each year, readers have less time to go to bookshops and the profusion of opinions from Internet users is not always reliable.
Decitre, which owns three bookshops in Lyons and five elsewhere in in the Rhône-Alpes region in southern France, claims to be the country's third largest bookseller.
